When Democracy Failed: The Warnings of History

It's probably a bit far fetched, but the idea of "The Homeland" has always had me a bit unnerved.

I can't help but notice that CNN's coverage of the war seems strikingly similar to, lets say FOX's coverage of the super bowl, or really any sports coverage in general. It's all, gung ho, "cool, we're fighting a war. What's the score?". I saw a reporter interviewing a fighter pilot, who was only too enthusiastic to be in combat. What struck me was a complete lack of awareness of what harm she may have been causing. It seemed like she was talking about finally being able to play the coolest most reallistic new video game. Yes, she's a fighter pilot, and she's obligated to carry out her orders, but should she not have the humility to at least acknowledge and be aware of just what it is she is really doing? That this is no video game, and real people are being killed.

A point just behind plane that seperates the possibility of realities from the reality of a possibility. There uncertainty is reality. There the ideal lives, only as a possibility, but lives nonetheless. It is a safe place, shielded by the plane, where one cannot know which possibility is realitiy, and which will be annihilated on the other side of the plane.

I think I may have started something. Last week I suggested to Suraj that it might be fun to bring a stand, an arban book, and our horns to the student centre some afternoon and just start playing some of the duets out of the book. No rehearsing, just whatever happens, happens. So we did, and it was fun, and there were mistakes galore, but it doesn't matter. We're going to do it again this week, and I think there might be one or two more people joining us. I found a couple of books of orchestral excerpts and a very cool looking piece for three trumpets. This week's session promises to be even more interesting than the last.
