J-Soft BlogThursday, November 28, 2002Keeping a web log could be likened to transcribing a solo. It is to one's day, or one's thoughts, what transcribing is to a solo. When transcribing a solo, one must listen much more closely than one normally would to what is being played. One must hear every nuance, and know where in the bar every note falls, in order to be able to write down what is being played. One may listen to a particulay passage over and over, each time gaining more information than the last time, until one has enough information to write down the passage. A web log demands the same kind of scrutiny be paid to one's past and present, and to one's thoughts. One must examine the days gone past for significant moments, and significant thoughts that ought to be shared. It forces one to pay closer attention to each moment as it passes. It is a skill that must be learned. And I imagine it might give one a greater awarness, or appreciation of their surroundings. I sat down here, knowing I wanted to make another web log entry, but not knowing quite what to write. Yes, I could list off all of the things I've done this week, most of which are mundane and routine, but that is not my intent with this web log. I intend for this to be a place more for my thoughts, and reflections than for a listing of the events gone by. There is by no means a lack of thoughts from which to write. Indeed, I am one who spends much of his time within himself. It is my hope that this will be a place where some of what lies within can reach the outside world. However, the vast majority of thoughts that pass through my mind in the course of a day live only in the moment, rarely leaving much record of their existence. And so, I must begin to scrutinize each moment, each thought. I must look at each as it passes, and if I see one I like, I must snatch it out of the air and put it in my pocket, to be written down later. posted by Jesse at 10:13 PM # |
